DRBODY: POSTUROLOGY*, A SCIENCE

(non-pharmacological neuromodulation)

    • Posturology is a combination of two words: posture and 'logos'(knowledge).
    • Posturology is the 'scientific thinking' about the human posture.
    • Posturology is a relatively young science. . .
    • Posturology includes podopostural therapy. . . but goes far beyond

    THE HISTORY OF POSTUROLOGY

The first scientific publication about posturology (1952) was from J.B.Baron, ophtalmologist, who already discussed a relation between the eye function and the human posture.

Round 1975 the French neurologist Dr. René Jaques Bourdiol experienced that very subtle stimuli applied at the skin of the human foot sole, gave a disproportionate neuromuscular chain reaction of that foot and the lower leg. Applying this with a standing person, thus with loaded feet, the posture will be influenced immediately, measurable, predictable and repeatable.

This was the beginning of a new, neuromodular postural treatment in a number of European countries. This therapy is known today as podopostural therapy. By prescribing patients very thin insoles, individually made, their standing and walking balance will be changed and their posture related complaints can be treated succesfully.

I have practised podopostural therapy for over twenty years in the Netherlands. Furthermore I have written several articles and books about this therapy, however only in Dutch. My site 'drbody' at that time, has been a service site for my patients for many years. From 2007 till June 2011 I have been chairman of the Dutch professional organisation of podopostural therapists. As such I have initiated more scientific research. At this refreshed site 'drbody' you'll find summaries from my articles and links to other, related reviews.
